HTML is short for Hyper Text Markup Language, Simply put it is the language the computer uses to speak to the World Wide Web.

Anything that needs to be added, changed or taken away from a page on the web needs to be done using the HTML.

Many of the little programs you can get on MSN Spaces already have HTML codes. All you have to do is add your personal information to them so that they work for you.

Here is a small piece of HTML code:

    ><A href="http://www.ripway.com"><FONT size=3>&nbsp; Click Here<

This particular code is telling the WWW to take you to a specific page.

The piece of code shown here in green is called the URL. It is simply the address of a page on the website. This could also have been the address of a picture or mp3 file or any other piece of information that you want access to.

You can change this address with one of your choice.

The part shown in brown sets the font and font size

The part in orange is the hypertext. That is the text that when highlighted performs the action. In this case takes you to the specified address.

You can change any of these bits of information and affect the outcome of the code.
    • Change the address and you will go to a different page
    • Change the font size and the font size will change
    • Change the words 'Click Here' and a different hypertext will appear
    ><A href="http://spaces.msn.com/members/the-songfairy"><FONT size=5>&nbsp; Visit The Songfairy<

Copy each of these into a blog entry after first opening the <HTML> page. Then click on the 'preview blog entry' tag and see how they change. Click on the links and see how they work.

Next change the codes to something personal to you.

I hope you have learned something new from this information and that you have found it useful.

I'm still confused. Why is that different to using the add link button? Am I missing something. I was suppose to be born in the computer era but I grew up on BBC computers that worked in dos and I don't understand that either!
